Rangers: Now Recruiting

Whatever you was doing? Wherever you were? It's now irrelevant. You see a sudden flash of light, a sensation like you're suddenly made of nothingness, and a rush of electric energy where you think your body must be. There's just enough time and consciousness for you to think that this is frightening, or strange, or perhaps cool, but in a second your body is whole again and you're sprawled on the cold hard ground in the darkness.

The space you find yourself in is dark, save for the twinkling white lights like stars that adorn the walls. As others warp in just like you have, streaks of colored teleportation energy fading around the outlines of their bodies, a ring of light illuminates the central controls. A number of control panels surrounds a central platform, the tops of the panels standing about at waist-height for an adult human. Each panel's outline is lit by a colored streak of light.

A single shape stands on the central platform, hustling and bustling to each successive platform. It's not human---the head is shaped like two cymbals crushed together, the limbs move a little too stiffly, and brightly lit buttons line its torso. It suddenly turns to spot your character, its red visor fixed on you as surely as a human's eyes would be. The little robot throws up its hands, waving you over after a moment.

"Ai yai yai. Ah...what should I say? Oh, that's right. Welcome, humans! And...others. You have been chosen to become Power Rangers."

Congratulations, you're about to find out just what that means.

[ooc: Your character has been given a morpher and a promise that they'll know what to do when they morph. Feel free to talk amongst the other recruits, badger Alpha, accept or refuse the offer at your leisure. No matter what, though, the call of battle will soon reach you, and your character will be teleported out into the wider world (and the call of battle). Don't worry, you'll be back in the Hexagon soon enough.]

Lee heard another voice within the room and he turned around from his place. He was looking at the empty rings where Zordon would normally greet them. It was surreal yet strong enough to pull him from his thoughts.

His own Morpher has been dormant for so long that he didn't think to grip it but it was with him. He turned to face Billy and stepped closer to the veteran Ranger. "Yes, as am I." Lee spoke softly.

Billy slipped his morpher back onto his belt and sighed, clenching and unclenching his hands. He knew of Lee, a distant ally, but he'd never exactly been close to him. "It's just the last news I expected to hear. 'Your family and friends are dead, you should be too, now do what you can to reverse this.'"

As with Lee, he only heard of the other Rangers but never had contact with them. It was safer for each of them that they hadn't considering that it would draw attention to anyone that could be looking to exploit them. The press proved it and so did the popularity they once had.

"Reversing time and fixing the problems that had already occurred is beyond what I am capable of. As you know, time is a complicated mistress." Lee hoped that whatever can be done would be done with the best of all worlds has to offer to save this one. Lee wanted to place his hand on Billy's shoulder but instead he chose to keep his distance. There was that air of respect that was present.

"At least we don't have to hunt for singing squash right now." The random thought made him smile.

"So you heard that story." Billy didn't have it in him to smile, not now. Not when all he could imagine were the deaths of his friends, a line of bodies scattered out in a desert somewhere. And that was their inevitable future now?

He shivered. "Then I can't let it happen to this group. I just have to know what went wrong."

"I have, yes." Lee inhaled deeply. He figured now that humor wasn't in Billy and decided to refrain from it.

Lee's hands stayed at his sides and his face showed the same confidence even though he couldn't stop the Purge from happening. The war was far from over. "I'm unsure of the details myself. I am looking into the past to see where we had gone wrong so we know not to repeat the same cycle of fate."

It was a hard fact and even Lee was starting to feel the grief of loss overcome him a bit. "Without Zordon, we are challenged with learning about our enemies alone and the hard way."

Billy nodded along. "I'll do my research too. This group won't die. It's too late for my friends...for me, but it can't be for them."

He looked at each new face, trying to commit them to memory. They were the people he needed to help and protect. "And I think Alpha can do some of the work. Whatever he needs, I'll pick up the slack."

"For their sake, let's work toward a better future. Our friends would want that." Lee's face shown a side that he rarely shown anyone at this moment. It was tinted with a bit of sadness marked with a strong sense of duty and honor that he can't let anyone down.

He knew this time wasn't going to be easy. With Zordon gone, they have to rely on each other now more than ever. "I'll work with you."

Billy exhaled, nodding sharply. "I appreciate it. Hopefully we can crack this before it gets any worse."

He forced his grief down, pulling a firm layer of determination over it. His pain could wait for later, it would have to. Alpha had mentioned that they needed to fight today, after all.

"Will you be joining us out there?"

"I think so, unless Alpha needs me to remain here to guide you." Lee was ready to fight again. He knew one way or the other he was needed, but figuring out exactly where was going to be another issue.

"I'm going where I am needed most."
morphitudinous: (Fight)

"I know what I'm doing. I've been at this for years. I just...well, I don't want to get myself killed too soon."

Billy winced. It sounded more morbid than he intended.
golfandrobots: (Huh.)

[personal profile] golfandrobots 2013-04-18 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
"I understand." Lee knew the feeling and working alone for nearly 20 years didn't help matters much. He felt the need to help out even if he wasn't sure exactly where he was placed just yet. He disliked doubt in himself and that uncertainty wasn't something he wanted to show.

He noticed Billy's wince and decided not to push the matter anymore. "As soon as we know what we're dealing with, the better. For now, even the smallest bit of hope is better than having none at all. We can beat the odds." His words reassured himself even if he was thinking out loud for the time being.

"I hope so," Billy whispered, his will to talk spent. "Now...I've just got to plan for this battle."

He strode over to Alpha to discuss the battle ahead, pouring all his focus into that now. He would mourn later.

Lee moved on to greet more people as they came through the gate. He didn't want to push Billy when there were more important things that needed their attention. Grief will come later. Talking will just have to wait. He looked over his shoulder briefly at Billy before he stepped away. The time for planning was now.

"Good luck."
